framed! ~ diy project

My coworker gave me this amazing huge frame when she was moving out of her house. It is a huge, gold, ornate frame with a Monet oil painting in it. As pretty as the frame and painting were, they didn’t match my living room. Soooo… I decided to attempt a spray paint DIY and re-do the frame. I love it!

First I took the canvas out of the frame

Then I set off to Lowes. I bought a spray primer, bright red spray paint, and a glossy top coat. I chose red to match my little Ikea rug. I thought it would make both of the pieces pop!

Then I had to find somewhere to spray outside :) Thankfully my friends allowed me to use their backyard! I used a plastic dropcloth and primed it, waited about 15 minutes and then sprayed it red.

It was a windy day so I had to keep fixing it up because when I walked away the plastic kept flying onto the wet paint! Also… never spray around trees with loose things that can fall on your frame. Oh well… adds character! Then we enlisted Michael to hang up and viola! Finally we have something hanging above my couch!

DIY decorations ~ dried flowers

A seriously great idea for a fall decoration around the house/apt is a pretty piece made with dried flowers!

Ready for this adorable story? My friend has saved every rose her boyfriend of 5 years has given her & plans on using all of them for something big in the future (wedding centerpieces…?? biiiig AWWW!) She has them in a huge vase for now while she decides what to do. AKA when he finally puts a RING on it!

Anyway! She gave me some tips on how to perfectly dry & save your flowers. Start collecting them, the possibilities are endless!

Tip 1

Don’t wait too long to start drying out your roses. You want to preserve your petals before they start falling off the stem and getting too wilted.

 Tip 2

Once your rose is wilting and the edges start to darken, hang your flowers upside down from the ceiling.

I suggest tying the stems together with a string and taping it to the ceiling. Let it hang there for several days.

 Tip 3

After the first full day of hanging, spray your flowers with hairspray. They preserve your petals and keep them from molding and preserve their shape!

 Tip 4

It will take several days to dry out your flowers. Don’t move them until they’re crunchy to the touch! From there, you can make potpourri or use them as a decoration!

DIY hair color

I’m getting ready to dye my hair dark for the fall/winter! I usually switch up my hair color a little bit during this time of year with a darker shade.

R & I are both DIY hair dye veterans (we won’t talk about the one time I dyed R’s hair and missed a few spots… sorry babe LOVE YA!)

Despite that little mishap, we’re both big fans of dying our own hair with products you can find at Walgreens, Ulta, etc. It’s all about finding the right brand & shade for your hair type & skin color. Here are a few that we’ve tried or heard about that definitely top the rest!
