superbowl appetizers

How was everyone’s superbowl? We hope you had fun with family & friends, were as pumped as we were about Beyonce & Destiny’s Child, & enjoyed some good food! (Let’s be honest, that’s the best part!)

Here’s was L&L snacked on last night ~ some good ideas for your next appetizer!

Mini sandwiches

Lay out a of pilsbury crescent rolls flat on a sheet. Layer add chopped ham, salami, pepperoni, provolone and roasted red peppers. Pour an egg mixture over it to keep all of the ingredients together, then top with the second tube of cressant rolls and bake for 30 mins.

Taco dip

In a large glass pan, layer either chili or beans, cream cheese, chopped tomatoes & onions, shredded cheese, & anything else you want to spice up your taco dip. Put it in the oven for a little bit to heat it up & serve with chips.

3

Chili

Everyone has their own variation of a chili recipe. Mix together ground meat (turkey, beef, etc), onions, tomato sauce, garlic, beans, tomatoes, oregano, chili powder, peppers.

4

Pigs in a blanket

Wrap hot dogs (cut in half) in Pilsbury crescent rolls, put shredded cheese inside the rolls & put in the oven for a delicious snack.

5

Brie

Place an entire wheel of brie inside a Puff Pastry sheet of dough. Spread raspberry jam on top of the brie, wrap the brie up tight in the pastry, and pour egg mixture on the top to seal it together. Wrap it in tin foil and put it in the oven for 15-20 minutes.

Both of us, along with our college roommates, went to see the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at Ravinia a few days ago and had a great time with amazing food & wine.

book club ~ no one is here except all of us ~ ramona ausubel

A group of our friends decided to create a book club post-college to stay in touch and have a reason to drink wine. This month’s book was No One Is Here Except All of Us by Ramona Ausubel. We wanted to post some pictures from our meeting and give you a summary of the book we read because it was simply amazing. It was a Holocaust story, but it was an interesting angle. It told the story of people who were disconnected from the center of the Holocaust and were affected in ways that no one would have thought of. They were isolated from the big cities, never heard of a concentration camp, yet their lives changed 100%. It was sort of a weird concept for a book–create another world by telling stories and keeping their minds off of their imminent demise, but Ausubel is such a wonderful writer it was easy to see past the strange concept. Her writing is so beautiful I can honestly say that it was a pleasure to read. Highly recommended!
